for example, if I am watching something on ROKU chan and then go watch something on Prime app, and come back to watch the thing on ROKU chan, in is now jerky, unless I exit to roku settings display and change them again to 4k HDR 30fps.
I have seen a lot of posts on this but no solution unless drop roku and try something else (like was just using the built-in on my Vizio V-436-G1 - works but seems cumbersome. Or maybe I'm just not used to it.
Any solutions?
Thanks! ROKU 4662X HDMI high end cables, etc etc etc 4K.
It may detect HDR@30Fps if you dont enable your TV's "Full UHD Color" etc.
Go to the TV's "Input Settings" and the HDMI port your Roku is on and enable "Full UHD Color" (and check/tweak any other HDMI mode options as well).
Have you configured framerate adjusting?
Settings/System/Advanced system settings/Advanced display setting/Auto adjust display refresh rate=on
Yes it is.
Appears to work if I do not define display as HDR. eg Display type as "4K 30Hz" instead of "4K HDR 30Hz".
So I can't use HDR with the ROKU even though it claims to be HDR capable because it will futz the frame rate.
That was after short test. Actually I think the reality is more that if I define the display as HDR, I cannot view anything on Prime app, HDR or not, without futzing frame rate.
HDR works fine with the TV's Vizio SmartCast (similar to ROKU).
Is that Vizio model not capable of HDR 60Hz? Indicates DV/HDR/HLG support, and appears to be a 2018 model.
If you use Display=Auto detect, does the problem occur?
I actually had been bouncing between display=auto and manually defining it as 4k HDR 30, since it won't change anything if I use the same method and frame rate prob continues. So I bounce between the 2.
Problem occurs either way. auto picks 30 so I assume it is not 60 capable. When I tried to force 60 yesterday it gave me an X", so the ROKU thinks not .
Yes, It's bout 1-2 years old - beautiful display!!! Fabulous demo stuff off YouTube.
This is a firmware problem. Somehow I have to get their attention to fix it. it is on auto update and always connected to RJ45 so always on latest, though I check to be sure.
The 4630 did everything I needed. I bought the 4662 like a fool hoping it would fix the frame rate prob. it did not.

YOU THE PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not know about that setting in Vizio. I found that it is available for the ROKU but not for my 4K Sammy BR Player(see below) . So I set it on for the Roku and went and set Display=auto (it chose 4K HDR 60) in ROKU and tested, and played Prime non HDR film, and tested, and played Prime HDR film, and tested, and NO FRAME SKIP/RATE ADJUST. PERFECT>
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: NOTE - I put a 4K BR DVD in the player (Sammy UBD-K8500 aka KM85C) and now that setting was available so turned it on. THANKS - never knew about that!!!!!
You're welcome - its a common HDMI signal setting for HDR TV's, and its almost always disabled/off by default (for compatibility reasons), requiring the user to go in and change it to "Deep Color" or "Full Color" "Enhanced Mode" etc.
If you have an HDR-capable AVR/soundbar that does HDMI passthrough, they also have such a setting.
Again, many thanks for the education!!! My soundbar is an LG LAS454B that is 2.1 (a few years old) and only has optical input (not HDMI) which I connect to my TV. It looks like the next step up to get HDMI soundbar would be about $280 for an LG SN6Y so that is "futures" for now. 🙂 but thanks as I did not even know about it. Good stuff!!!
