YouTube tv playback error - requires payment?!?

I keep getting a playback error when I try to watch YouTube tv. I’m paid up and can watch from my phone but when trying on Roku I get an error that payment is required. Anyone know what’s going on?

Have you tried signing out and back in?

If that doesnt work, remove the YT TV app, RESTART the Roku, reinstall the YT TV app.

I’ve tried all those and nothing works. Appears the issue is with the YouTube TV app and engineers are actively working to resolve it.

I have the exact same problem.  I have four TVs with Roku's and they all give the same error.  I can stream YouTube TV on my phone, tablet and laptop so I know my account is good.  I've removed the YouTube TV channel on the Roku, re-started the Roku, and re-added the YouTube TV channel.  Still have the same problem.

If you have both the Youtube and Youtube TV channels/apps, remove them both before you reboot/restart.

Re: YouTube tv playback error - requires payment?!?

Hi renojim

I have been round and round both with Roku and YouTubeTV (YTTV) without luck. I have 4 TVs with various model Roku Streaming Sticks: 3810RW, 3810X, 3800X

Symptom: With many recorded shows, when I try to play, it will simply play a 30-second ad and then quit, as if the show has been completed. I cannot FF past the ad or RWD to the beginning of the show. Or it gives me a playback error.

I tried removing and reinstalling the YTTV channel. Annoyingly, when you remove YTTV on one, it removes it on all four! I tried removing, pulling power for 30 seconds from the Roku, reinstalling, and still no dice.

Your suggestion gave me hope. Here's what I did:
1. Removed YTTV and YouTube channel on one TV (which did so for all four tvs/Rokus)
2. Pulled the power on all four Roku sticks for 30 seconds
3. Reconnected power on one Roku Stick, powered up, and reconfigured YTTV login

I pulled up a problem recording, and I was happy to see I could FF/FWD through the show. But once it hits an ad, it plays the ad, then I'm back to square one.

Of course, there are zero problems replaying recordings on the YTTV mobile phone app or on a computer browser.

@tl098711

Thanks for the post.

If you are still not able to resolve the issue, you'll want to contact Youtube support directly to inquire further. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.

You can reach Youtube support here: https://support.google.com/youtube/?hl=en#topic=9257498

Please keep us posted what you find out.

Thanks,
