Streaming stick 4K and HDCP error - fixed but recurring

Brand new Stick 4K. Working perfectly on several years old Visio TV. But after the TV and Roku are idle for a few hours, I get the HDCP error screen. After unplugging everything and plugging back in, as described in several boards, it works. I have set the auto refresh to off and the video display to auto-detect.

The TV and Roku are clearly compatible because everything works great, Until the problem recurs.

Re: Streaming stick 4K and HDCP error - fixed but recurring

I have a very similar problem. My Roku and TV worked great until about a month ago. Now I get the HDCP error. If I unplug both the TV and Roku, they will work - but having to do this EVERYTIME I'd like to watch Netflix is a pain. I got a new HDMI 8K cable, switched ports a bunch of times, and switched the auto-detect to 720. As with the previous poster, I also have an older VIZIO television.

Re: Streaming stick 4K and HDCP error - fixed but recurring

I don’t have the option of changing the hdmi cable because it’s a streaming stick. For now, I’ve moved a 2019 Roku premier to the older Vizio and the new Streaming stick 4K to an LG that gets OTA software updates. So far so good but we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
it does look like a backward compatibility problem with older dumb TV

@gscottrobinson-

Roku 10.5, currently rolling out, has added a new Power item in the Settings > System menu for some recent Roku models. In my estimation it is not well thought out. If you have this Power item, under "Auto power savings" see if deactivating "After 20 minutes of no interaction" fixes the problem

Re: Streaming stick 4K and HDCP error - fixed but recurring

This solution did not appear on my menu but I do have an update. I quit the new Streaming Stick 4K on the older TVs. One of them now has a 2019 Roku Premiere and the other has a new Roku Express (the cheapest model currently offered for $19.99). No more HDCP errors. So the answer seems to be to stick with HD and avoid 4K and other embellishments on older TVs
