Hi. I have been receiving audio and video static since I connected my Roku. Supposedly, my download speed was poor. I read the help page and the posted questions. Last night I raised the height of my router, raised the height f the Room device, switched the Room power supply from the adapter from the outlet to the USB port on the tv, and restarted everything. And it worked! The static went away, and I was able to stream two hours of live broadcasting. Today, the static is back!!!!!! I will try restarting everything again. What could the problem be???
It may be as simple as moving your express around a bit more and finding the sweet spot. If you use your remote control to enter a dignostic/debug screen from within the Roku, you can see if the changes you making in real time are helping.
From the Home Screen of your Roku, using your remote Home and Purple Arrow Buttons...
HOME 5x, Up, Down, Up, Down, Up
From here, you can kind of move your Express around, move your Router around. You are just looking to keep everything in the green bars on your screen.
You will also notice a Channel Line. (This is the channel currently assigned to your Express at the router). This would be another good starting point is to change that number from within your router to another between 1-11 from within your router settings to see if you get better results. You may be on a congested channel or getting interference/noise.
Although it wont improve internet speed technically, you can also try to disable protocol b, from within your router and that should at least help with network speed. Protocol g should handle any b devices you have. If not, you will have to re-enable b, but you should under normal circumstances be able to disable it and just use g/n (Mixed).
Hopefully those couple of tips can get you a better signal. Don't break your Express, you are lucky its even working!
Try a new HDMI cable or different HDMI input on your TV.
Hi everyone. I posted last week about my getting static on my roku express. You were kind enough to respond and made some suggestion that I have tried. I have discovered that if I unplug the tiny USB (the one that supplies the power) from the unit, and plug it back in, the tiny will restart and the static is gone. But if I switch back to watch tv, then back to roku, the static comes back.
I had started out using the plug adapter, so the power does not be the issue. I have also tried using the USB power cord from my kindle, which still brought static.
So, should I buy a new HDMI cable to see if that's where the problem lies? I have tried all the HDMI ports on my tv, with no change. Or is the tiny itself defective? Thanks for reading!! Any thoughts?
Ahhhh. You are seeing static in the video signal. Then yes, as @renojim suggested you should buy a new HDMI cable if you do not have another and see if that helps your issue.
Instead of resetting your Express by unplugging the power cable, try just unplugging the HDMI cable next time you see static and plugging back in. Just another way to test the HDMI.
