Roku ultra 2020 goes to Home Screen periodically

I have a Roku ultra 2020 and on certain apps goes back to Home Screen as soon as they are opened. This only happens once every 4 days or so. It only does this on certain apps but all at the same time. I have a great internet connection. Some of the apps affected are ESPN,Pluto, and the Roku channel app. After a restart all work great. Anyone else seeing this on a 2020 Roku ultra?

Re: Roku express goes to Home Screen after 10min watching app

To whom it may concern

I am having a similar issue with my roku express. The model number is 3930CA. The device ID is S014307LVVSC.

What is happening with mine is every time I go on a streaming app whether it be prime TV, roku channel, tubi TV, YouTube,  After watching a show for approximately 10 minutes I am booted off to the home screen which is very frustrating.  The only app that seems to work through for some reason is Netflix.

The things that I have chosen to do is delete all apps and reboot all apps. I have system reset the roku itself. I have pressed the little button on the roku and reset it. Restarted. Reloaded all apps. You name it I've done it.   Is there something I am missing cause nothing seems to be working. My Internet seems to be fine I am not having any issues on any other devices via playstation or other roku's. Please advise

Re: Roku ultra 2020 goes to Home Screen periodically

Hi @kdb29127 @Roxannakatana,

Thanks for the post.

We'd like to know where is your Roku device getting its power source? Are you using a power strip or surge protector or is it plugged in directly to your wall outlet? Have you tried plugging the Roku device on a different HDMI port on your TV or a different TV, just to test and isolate the issue? In addition, is this issue occurring on specific channels?

Please let us know and we'll continue assisting you from there.

Thanks,

Mary

Re: Roku ultra 2020 goes to Home Screen periodically

I have it connected to a power strip. It does it on a number of apps but not all. I have tried it in another room on another TV so far so good. I have replaced it with a roku streaming stick plus and it is working perfectly on the same tv.

Re: Roku ultra 2020 goes to Home Screen periodically

With our Ultra (2019) I'm having to restart it ever couple of days.

Something else off the wall to try.

Restart your Modem and Router ever few days.

I've noticed in the past year of 'hunkering down' I've been having to do this. Even more so in the last couple of months.
Three desktops, one laptop and numerous tablets and smartphones going here, and I believe that the Router gets 'bogged' down and needs to be 'cleared' out so to say.
I haven't taken the time to debug it and narrow it down but that's what I've been doing. YMMV.

Not to mention "stealth" firmware updates pushed by your ISP etc...

But yes, modems/routers/gateways/APs have limited memory and allocated stack/heap space, especially for the NAT/connection table(s), and these get filled/overrun and along with poor programming result in memory leaks etc.

So its probably good/best practice to reboot the entire device chain (modem/router/gateway/AP/hubs/switches & devices) once a week (preferably during the middle of the night/early AM) to minimize/limit performance/functionality degradation issues.
