I purchased four Roku 4K sticks to stream vudu movies and use netflix etc. The stick will stream all apps like netflix, hulu etc just fine but will not stream vudu movies. It will connect to vudu and allow me to browse vudu movies but when I select one to stream it plays for a few seconds and disconnects/reboots my dsl modem from the internet. It only happens with vudu and vudu will play on the same TV using the app from the TV or bluray, just not the sticks. All four sticks do the same thing on four different TVs. Any help would be very much appreciated.
You mention the Stick is 4K, but your device list only shows the 3600, which is not 4K. Can you confirm the model number of your Stick?
If the Roku is working fine with all other services, I can't think of any reason that the Roku could cause your Internet modem to reboot. I can stream Vudu on my Roku devices without a problem, and this includes 4K devices and movies. All I can think of is that there's something in the Vudu stream (which has nothing to do with the Roku) that is triggering the modem reset. And since it works fine with other devices, that's just all the more puzzling.
I can't think of anything a connected network device could do to cause the modem to reboot, other than an app designed specifically for that purpose. There's simply nothing within the Roku (or any other streaming player) that should trigger such an event.
When problems are confined to a particular channel, it may be that the channel did not install correctly, has received a faulty update, or has subsequently gotten corrupted. A reinstall of the channel to get its latest version may fix the problem, so give it a try. Remove/reinstall procedure:
If the problem persists at this point, it typically means the current version of the channel app has a problem that must be addressed by the channel itself as they are the ones that create the Roku-compatible version of their app and provide it to Roku.
I just tried Vudu on my Ultra 4800, and I think there's an issue with the channel. I first tried playing a UHD/Dolby Vision video (Close Encounters) and my TV locked up. I had to reboot the Roku and the TV to get it back. After that, I played a HDX (1080) video, and it was OK. I then went back to the UHD movie, and this time it played. I seem to recall I've had that issue in the past, although I don't remember the specifics about what provider it was. I can play the same movie using a different provider (Prime Video as well as Movies Anywhere, still UHD but HDR, not DV) and it plays fine. It appears to be a Vudu issue.
