The limited TV controls on the stick's remote communicate directly to the TV via IR signals -- they don't involve the stick at all.
With the trouble shooting you've done, I think the stick has probably quit working. Electronic equipment is always susceptible to surges and spikes in the power delivered to it. Do you have it connected via a surge protected connection?
