Roku bricking older boxes

So i started to notice on my 2 Roku 2 boxes that since an update its getting real slow some apps some times completely freeze or kick you back to home screen so i rang my mother up who also has a roku 2 box that i bought her and same thing also a guy at work same thing thats 4 boxes all slowing right down which only a restart will fix it.

This has to be Roku doing this to force us to get their new sticks! disgrace!

@MrBluePlaydoh

Thanks for the post.

We would be more than happy to investigate the issue you are experiencing. Can you please provide us the following information:
-Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About)
-does this issue occur on a specific channel? if so, what channel and what version/build is the channel (this can be found be selecting the channel on the Home screen and pressing the * button)
-tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times)
-steps to reproduce the issue you are seeing

Once we have this information, we will be able to investigate further.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: Roku bricking older boxes

There are 5 different versions labeled as a Roku 2. Three are officially no longer supported, and the remaining two are now 6 1/2 and 8 years old, regardless how long you've had them. That's why you were asked what model you have.

Frankly, a newer Roku would far outperform even the newest of the Roku 2 players (the 4210 was the most recent model). The latest Express 4K+ has double the operating memory, eight times the channel storage memory, and a far, far faster processor. You would also get 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision support. Even if your existing TV isn't 4K, your next one very likely will be.

As to the minstra player, Roku doesn't create or support 3rd party channels. It's entirely possible that the channel developer stopped supporting it. I looked in the channel store and found nothing with that name. Roku only removes channels that are in violation of their licensing agreement. The usual cause for that is offering content without the legal authorization to do so. I'm not saying that is what happened, as I have no personal idea myself.
