Roku box not turning on when we hit the remote power button

We recently got a Roku Express 4K+ for one of our TVs.   When we hit the power button the TV comes on, but the Roku box stays off.  We have to unplug the cord from the Roku box, then plug it back in, and then the whole thing reboots and it comes on.  If we turn off the TV later and then go to turn it back on, we have to do it all over again!  Every single time.  It 's a real pain.  Is this the way these devices are supposed to work???? Help.  We are new to streaming.

Re: Roku box not turning on when we hit the remote power button

The power button only affects the TV.  The Express is never off, although it may go into a power saving mode.  Press the Home button (or any non-TV control button) to wake it.  If you don't like that behavior you can disable it under Settings->Power.

HOORAY - that works.  I wonder why those directions aren't in the instruction manual.  I was very close to returning the whole thing.  THANK YOU!

The "power saving" feature is new and arrived with a recent update.  I don't know if it was mentioned in the "What's new" startup video/image that appeared with one of the recent updates or if it's mentioned in one of their "Getting started" or "Tips and tricks" videos that I'm sure few people watch.
