Recently when I press the remote's power button, only the television comes on, giving me an HDMI error message. I have to press "OK" or reboot the Ultra for the power to come on and the signal to reach the tv. I've switched batteries in the remote, doesn't help. I've had the device eleven months.
What's the software version shown under Settings->System->About? Prior to 10.5 there was no power off of a Roku device and I'm not sure what the update changed. The power button on the remote simply powered on the TV. Pressing OK (or any button) on the remote would dismiss the screensaver.
10.5.0 build 4191-C2
All I know is I have to press OK or some other button for the Roku Ultra light to come on and the signal to go through the HDMI cable to the television. I didn't have to do that before.
I want to make sure my device isn't malfunctioning.
Prior to recently-released Roku version 10.5 there were no provisions for turning Roku devices off.
Neither @renojim nor I have received the update to Roku 10.5 yet so we don:t know some pertinent details.
Reportedly 10.5 has added a Power menu choice to Roku menu path Settings > System, under which the Roku can be set to power down. Try going into this option if it's there and see if there is anything there that will keep the Roku from shutting down, or perhaps to start back up when you press the power key.
And please report back what you find so we'll all know.
