Solving playback issues

I have a Roku Express plugged into a Hitachi 4k TV. However playback is so dark that some scenes are completely black. I have tried every setting on my tv but it makes no difference. I have factory reset the Roku and plugged into different HDMI ports. Playback on my tv without the Roku is fine so it must be the Roku. 

Any ideas on how to fix this? As there are no actual picture settings on the Roku Express menu.

Does the display issue only happen on a specific channel/content or across other channels installed on your Roku device? We would recommend changing the picture setting during playback by following the steps below:

1. After playback begins, press the Star button on your Roku remote to open the Options menu.
2. Scroll up or down to Picture mode.
3. Change the picture mode using the left and right buttons on the directional pad. The directional pad is plus-shaped and is in the center of the remote.

Pressing the star key during playback only brings up audio menu. There is no picture menu on the roku express. Which is something I was surprised about.

You'll need to more closely examine all the picture mode settings of your Hitachi TV (model unknown) - its likely it has per-input picture mode settings.

Download the manual and read the section about changing the picture mode settings for different inputs.
