Roku Express Picture Size

I just bought my first Roku product - a Roku Express - to replace a cable box.  The picture size is not the same as it is through the cable box.  I have read other posts and tried to change the picture size through Settings, but there is no such adjustment on the Roku Express.  The aspect ratio on the TV is set at 16:9, but channels coming through Roku fill the screen.  Do I need to buy a different model?  Or is this not going to work for me at all...  😞

Re: Roku Express Picture Size

I don’t think I understand the issue.  For example, you say: " channels coming through Roku fill the screen" which I think would be the typical expectation - unless there is some other information, such as: this is not actually a 16:9 TV?

Re: Roku Express Picture Size

A number of channels that I typically watch (like CNBC with a streaming stock info at the bottom of the screen) appear as letterbox (with a black strip above and below) when using the cable box.  I see a lot more streaming info that way.  Thru Roku, it fills the screen and I only see like 3 stock symbols in the streaming info. - although there doesn't appear to be any other info. "spilling" off the sides of the screen.

Re: Roku Express Picture Size

Is the TV 16:9?

There are multiple possibilities here:  Most TVs have multiple screen size settings and most are actually set to simulate "overscan" by default.  This can be fixed by setting the screen size to something like "exact fit" or similar wording.  Also, on the remote, there is likely a format/zoom button that cycles through a bunch of additional picture format options.  Either of these settings could be zooming the screen.

Re: Roku Express Picture Size

I checked that.  Set to 16:9.  😕  Are you able to change the picture size settings with your Roku remote?  If yes, what kind of Roku device do you have?

From your Roku home page: Settings > Display type

What is selected?

Re: Roku Express Picture Size

All the settings I was talking about are on the TV.

ie: between my Roku express and my TV there are 3 places to set a picture format and they all interact with each other.

Re: Roku Express Picture Size

"Detected:1080p HDCP 1.4"  It's set to Auto Detect.  There are only 2 other choices - 1080p TV or 720p TV.  This TV is 1080p.

Re: Roku Express Picture Size

Where are you finding size settings on the Roku Express?  Under Settings, I have Display type which is 1080p.  That's it.  Nothing about picture size/format.  The remote for the TV has teh picture size set to 16:9 for ALL SOURCES.  But it's letterbox thru cable and zoomed in/fills the screen for Roku.
