Does Roku 3 support pass through and playback of 5.1 surround flac files? When the audio stream arrives at my receiver it is always 2.0 channel PCM transcoded to 48khz. I've tried 5.1 flac files for DTS and Dolby Digital.
My Roku settings are set for surround and streaming content works for other channels such as Amazon Prime and Netflix.
I'm streaming the flac files from my NAS UPnP server.
Thanks
I was able to play my 5.1 flac files when accessing them through my Sony blu-ray player connecting to the UPnP drive.
Therefore, the Roku 3 appears to have a problem and transcodes down to 2 channel PCM stereo.
Thanks. It is making sense to me now. I can try an experiment and create an MKV file and see if the Roku 3 decodes it as 5.1 surround DTS or Dolby Digital.
Where I am still confused is that MKV is just a "container". So, does it contain a particular file type for the audio?
