Receiver shuts off while watching Roku

Our receiver shuts off periodically while watching from Roku -- three or four times during a movie.  Receiver message is "check speaker wires".  Doesn't happen with watching from our cable box.  My impression is that the somehow the output from the Roku is overloading the receiver.  I've installed fans to cool the receiver, but it didn't stop the receiver from shutting off.  Suggestions?  Time for a new receiver?

Maybe.

Or, post the receiver brand and model, along with the Roku model number (Settings > System > About). Perhaps someone had a similar setup and has a solution that applies to that particular setup.
