Solving playback issues

So I switched from a streaming stick + to a 2020 ultra to get dolby vision/ atmos in ever app instead of just some.

it seems like every couple hrs the screen drops to just white pixelated screen.  3 times I have just unplugged the HDMI but once the unit completely rebooted.

new HDMI cable, the unit is connected to a nakamichi soundbar. I have an LG 4k disc player connected to it as well that does not have this issue.  wired connection currently.

I have seen that other people on the web may be having this issue but have seen no fix.  I looked in advanced setting and there is an auto adjust display refresh rate this is off and I have seen posts saying to turn it off.  

Nakamichi sound bar site says stet it to on but have heard some apps are not compatible.  could also try wireless connection but not sure that would do anything.

You didnt mention what brand/model TV you are using.

Regardless, make sure you:

1) Disable "HDR Always on": Settings/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced display settings/HDR Always on=off

2) Disable "Atmos Always on":  Settings/Audio/HDMI=Auto passthrough

3) Try enabling frame rate matching:  Settings/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced display settings/Auto adjust refresh rate=on

4) Try changing the HDR chroma:  Settings/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced display settings/HDR subsampling=4:2:2

Also make sure "Deep Color" mode or similar is enabled in the TV/HDMI port and soundbar/HDMI port as well.

If nothing else works, try temporarily directly connecting to the TV to rule out an issue with your soundbar.

its a 65" LG 8 series OLED.  I switched to the TV directly and we will see if it goes away.

okay so its the 4K hdr setting switched through the soundbar.  the roku will test the setup say its okay but I get random dropouts.  I guess I will have to call nakamichi I am using the setting they say work but who knows.

LG 4k disc player was acting up at first but ordered new HDMI's all around with 18gps bandwidth and that seemed to have fixed its issue.

the picture and sound with dolby vision an atmos are great but seems like all the variables and manufactures hardware make it a PITA to set up.

switched everything to the TV and audio to sound to ARC but get horrible lipsync on dolby content.  It like problem whack a mole ha ha.  switch to PCM it removes the lag but lose the fact that the soundbar recognizes it as atmos.

podering just finding a good receiver and atmos speakers.

Often its a 6/half dozen scenario - you choose the connection configuration/device settings based upon the annoyances you find most tolerable coupled with the features you want/use most.

I have read that the Nakamichi soundbars lose audio for a few seconds when the codec/format switches, when starting/stopping streams or switching inputs.

Are you using the latest soundbar firmware (should be FW34/35)?

I put firmware 35 on it.  I have a ticket in with them.  I have it very repeatable now.  the ultra runs for hours in 4k UHD.  Drops every 15-45 min in 4k HDR hooked to the soundbar.  Hooked to my tv it went 6-8 hrs yesterday no issue.  Its not bad in normal 4k but my adult onset autism just wanted everything to work ha ha.

I bought it for the HDMI inputs and it would not deal with my satellite box at all so I waiving on going with a receiver and speakers.  has 3HDMI inputs but they seem not as robust my old yamaha receiver switching.  It would not support HDR so that was why I was upgrading.

I was able to resolve this.  about the 4th time I reset all devices I went one device at a time and went back to cable supplied with the devices and now things are working.

1. added roku first with supplied cable

2. added lg disc player second with cable supplied with sound bar

3. added dish network 3rd with HDMI connection to tv and audio via ACR

I never found a smoking gun bad cable or setting wrong as the cables I swapped out did work on other devices maybe it was just initial setup.
