I have Model 3921X, has worked fine for months, now deteriorating with constant black screen flickering. Disconnected power, HDMI connections, checked for software updates, no change. Using on an Insignia TV. Help! Thank you.
So maybe the TV is dying not the Roku?
Does turning the TV off and back on at the TV itself with the manual button (not Roku remote) help? You can also try lowering the resolution to 720p also for troubleshooting.
In Roku, SETTINGS....DISPLAY TYPE...720p
Maybe also try in your Roku Settings....
SETTINGS....SYSTEM....ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS....ADVANCED DISPLAY SETTINGS...AUTO-ADJUST DISPLAY REFRESH RATE....and set to OFF
then do a System Restart.
SETTINGS...SYSTEM....SYSTEM RESTART
And I know you said you didn't see updates, but just verify again you see Update 9.4 (Build 4200). I am always pushing that Check Now button. I don't think my Rokus have ever automatically updated by themselves even though it says daily check.
Is it possible to attach your Premiere to another TV to see if this resolves issue? The Premier is a good steady device. It is possible it could be defective but testing it on another TV is probably going to be your only definitive test if changing the settings above didn't work for you.
Thank you for feedback.
I have a separate remote that turns the TV on and off; Have a separate remote for my Yamaha receive; use Roku remote only to change Roku channels.
Display type was 1080; changed to 720....got worse! Changed back to 1080.
Auto adjust was off; changed to on, then back off and did a system restart. Also reset wireless connection.
Update does display as Update 9.4 (Build 4200).
I do not have another TV to try; when watching just the TV, I do not have the screen blinking.
Try a new HDMI cable? Or?..... thanks again!
TV screen without Roku works fine.
Good. You seem to have narrowed it down to the Premiere or the HDMI connection between the Premiere and the TV.
1. Under your TV settings, look for something that says HDMI CEC.(usually under the HDMI INPUTS or similar) Make sure this is ENABLED. This just makes HDMI connected devices(the Premiere) communicate a little better with TV).
2. The other things are what you thought, try using another HDMI cable if you have one, or move to another HDMI port if available. Could also try wiggling that HDMI port connection at TV slightly and see if anything changes.
3. The final thing I would check is the power adapter on the Premiere. It could be underperforming (loose connection between the USB where it plugs into adapter, or the adapter itself.) Could be picking up interference if plugged into extension cord, etc.
4. If troubleshooting steps above don't work, the technical term is the "Wiggle & Shake Test". When the flickering starts up, try wiggling the various connection and slightly shake the Premiere, tap the power adapter. See if you are getting any responses, worse, better, etc. (Of course, the above procedure is probably not Roku Approved)
If none of the above works, then I would lean towards replacing the Premiere. If it only a couple months old, should be under warranty. Just don't tell them you shook it.
Post back results or if you need more help.
Yeah! I unplugged/reconnected the HDMI connection to the receiver and voila - flickering stopped! I probably should have checked ALL cables but this stuff is not my forte....so THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your direction....got me checking further and got it solved!
Good to hear!
