Re: Occasional flashes to black with Dolby Vision after update to 10.0.0 software

I fixed my Dolby Vision 4K detection issue with (finally) finding the right setting on the Sony X900F for enhanced outputs--now the Roku is auto detecting both DV-60 Hz and HDR10-60 Hz signals correctly.

However, despite my prior comment about fixing the black-blank screen, then the appearance of the Dolby Vision symbol during viewing by turning off "auto recovery" on the Roku...this did NOT fix it, although it seems like the frequency of appearance has been reduced. If I had to guess, I would think this is definitely an HDMI handshake issue due to the Roku losing then recovering the signal. My solution, since there does not seem to be any forthcoming solution from Roku, is to simply dump DV and make HDR10 the only setting.

Re: Occasional flashes to black with Dolby Vision after update to 10.0.0 software

I can CONFIRM this is a new problem.  I bought two Roku Ultras last February and everything was fine until a week ago, now when watching I get the flashing black screen for a few seconds, followed by the "Dolby Vision" logo re-appearing.  Turning off Dolby Vision in settings and choosing just HDR fixes the problem.  And yes, I did EVERYTHING else to fix it.  New HDMI cables, different HDMI ports, tinkered with HDCP settings, lowered OLED backlight, rebooted unplugged etc etc.  I know this a ROKU issue because one of my TVs runs through a Pioneer VSX-1131 to an LG OLED, one of them runs directly from the ULTRA to an OLED LG TV, and my third OLED LG TV is not connected to anything and has no issues with flashing screens when running Netflix, YouTube TV etc directly from the TV Smart Hub, only the LG OLED TVs connected directly to an ULTRA either directly or through a receiver have this flashing black screen Dolby Vision problem which appeared a week ago after three months of no problems (v10 issue?), ROKU please fix!

Re: Occasional flashes to black with Dolby Vision after update to 10.0.0 software

did you try the following?

-change the Automatic Recovery to disabled in the secret HDMI screen?

-ensure your av is still porting thru enchanced hdmi

-turn HDR always on to off in the advanced settings?

i did these three things along with leaving the display set to DV 4K and no more issues on my LG OLED.

Re: Occasional flashes to black with Dolby Vision after update to 10.0.0 software

Yes I did all of those things, it does fix it if I turn 'HDR always on to off' in the advanced settings but the picture quality noticeably degrades and the contrast is very muddy with that turned off.  Changing it to HDR does fix it, but ROKU should address the Dolby Vision issue as they pay a licensing fee to them (it's not open source) and is cash in the trash.

Update: I did that Automatic Recovery to disabled in the secret HDMI screen thing and at least now the Roku doesn't automatically switch my settings from HDR back to Dolby Vision everytime I turn on the TV, still Roku has a problem with Dolby Vision and needs to address it.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the posts.

If you have provided us with the information that I have requested in one of my previous posts, I have passed it along to the appropriate Roku team to investigate further. Once more information becomes available, I'll be sure to update the Community.

Roku Ulta Screen Flashed on Samsung TV

I have a Roku Ultra, and i have a Samsung - 50" Class 7 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Tizen TV, the screen goes to black a lot while playing--To get this out of the way I have bought a new HDMI cable (2.2), I have powered up and powered down, switched ports, i took the picture display off of auto and set it correctly, i did attempt to lower the backlight (as others suggested) but for this model  this is not an option.  I could try to take off the HDR but then that seems silly to limit my own viewing experience.  I see that this topic has come up before and not been resolved, it seems to happen a lot.  Let me know if you have any suggestions outside of what has already been done.

Are you using the Dolby Vision option or HDR?

Re: Roku Ulta Screen Flashed on Samsung TV

I do not use Dolby Vision--my display type is and is set at 4K HDR10+ at 60 frames per second.

Hmmm not sure then why you are seeing black flashes, I completely shut off Dolby Vision from my Roku Ultra and the problem went away.

Re: Occasional flashes to black with Dolby Vision after update to 10.0.0 software

I have the same issue as described initially in this post.  I have an LG GX 65'' OLED and a Roku Ultra running 10.0.  My screen will intermittently go black while the audio continues and then when it comes back I see the Dolby Vision logo appear.  Please address and how again do I administer a stop gap solution?
