Solving playback issues

I’m at my wits end with Roku. In a separate post I identified a problem trying to play Star Trek Picard on the Paramount Plus app through the AppleTV app. It’s a Dolby Vision program that plays fine on my AppleTV but crashes to the Home screen on Roku. 

Now, I went back into the actual Paramount Plus app because my trial expired and created an account for the stand alone app. I opened the app and went to Picard and it loaded fine (surprisingly). But wait… No DV logo?? Flip over to Star Trek Discovery… No DV logo there either. WTF???? I went through half a dozen programs that play in Dolby Vision on the AppleTV but on Roku they aren’t even showing HDR10, let alone DV in the program description. WTF?? Obviously Roku knows it can’t play the Paramount programs in DV so they don’t even offer that format. WTF??? I’m Done!!!!

I cancelled my P+ account a couple of months ago, so I'm going from memory. I don't think CBS supports DV on Roku devices. Just because it's available in DV on an Apple TV doesn't mean they made it available on a Roku. 

Just don't blame Roku for this. CBS is who created the channel, and they determined what content is available in what format on what platform. Their Android app is limited in a similar way, as it only offers 2 channel audio, where Roku devices get 5.1 audio, although it's not the selected audio track by default.

Thanks for the input. Now that I’ve calmed down I see that you’re probably correct. My only issue with that is how this all started was I originally subscribed through iTunes inside the AppleTV app because we were at a hotel that had it already installed. That TV didn’t support DV but when I got home and played it on the AppleTV it was rock solid. Then I popped over to Roku and within the AppleTV app it is listed as a DV program, but it crashes all the way out on launch. I posted this on the site and support answered right away. Their recommendation was to reboot the Roku, so it either is supported and their a bug, or Level 1 support doesn’t know what apps do and do not play on their own hardware.

The P+ app doesnt support DV on Roku (yet) - just HDR10.

The ATV app does support DV for P+ content.

We just have to push P+ on this (along with default 5.1 for 5.1 detected/configured systems, instead of manually switching it for every stream).
