For many years I had a Roku model 2710X and was able to control the volume of its streaming content using my Spectrum cable TV remote. Today I replaced the model 2710X with a new Roku Express model 3930X. As soon as I did, I lost the ability to control the Roku streaming content volume with my Spectrum cable remote. My TV is a Samsung. Only my Spectrum cable box and the Roku are attached to it. The TV is not a smart TV. The new Roku Express is connected to my TV thru the same HDMI port as the old Roku 2710X. The only reason I replaced the old Roku is because Amazon informed me that Amazon Prime would stop supporting my old Roku device and recommended the purchase of the Roku Express as a replacement. How do I restore the ability to control the volume on Roku streamed content with my Spectrum TV remote using the Roku Express?
I'm not sure why you lost the ability, but you weren't controlling the volume of the Roku; you must have been controlling the volume of the TV with your Spectrum remote. No Roku console has ever had the ability to control its volume.
I never said I was controlling the volume with the Roku. I was streaming with the Roku and controlling the volume with the Spectrum cable tv remote. However, once I replaced my old Roku with the Roku Express, I lost the ability to control the volume with the Spectrum cable tv remote. I can hear sound when I stream but I can't change the volume with the Spectrum remote anymore. I need to get back the ability to change the volume with the Spectrum remote which I was able to do when I was streaming with my much older prior Roku device.
I understood you perfectly; you didn't understand me. This has nothing to do with your Roku device. The Spectrum remote can only control the volume of your TV, not any stand-alone Roku device. Does the Spectrum remote turn your TV on and off? Have you tried switching back to the old Roku device to see what happens? I'd be shocked if anything changes.
As I explained, the Spectrum Remote was able to control the volume of the streaming content I received thru my original Roku player - model 2710X - for years. The Spectrum Remote, however, was unable to do the same thing on the Roku Express which I installed yesterday. In both cases, the content was streamed thru the Roku device and displayed on my TV screen which was connected to both Rokus thru the same HDMI port without any connection to my cable box. Having given this issue further thought, I think it relates to the programming of the Spectrum remote. Certain Spectrum remotes can be programmed to control devices besides a tv.
