Horizontal Lines with New Software (10.0.0 Build: 4209-30)

Jump to solution

I have seen posts for horizontal lines but not quite like I am seeing.  I am using a TCL TV with Roku in its simplest configuration.  I have nothing plugged into or out of the unit.  I did have a wireless connection but turned it off to validate the problem I am having currently still occurs.

What I am seeing is groups of horizontal lines/bands that flicker, "smear" and then "bounce" from down to up .  They then stop/disappear for what seems like a full second and then the problem repeats.  This seems to happen in any mode of use.  For example, the problem occurs when simply viewing the configuration screens.  It also happens when I hook up a computer via HDMI.   I'd be curious if the display data path always goes through or from the ROKU.  Is there a completely independent data path from ROKU so I can separate what might be a hardware problem from a software problem?

What concerns me is that I can track this to almost exactly the time it happened. The problem started June 30th in the evening and has persisted since.  When I check the "last updated" field for the software it is the 30th at 8:26pm.  I'd love to revert software to see if the new software is the problem but I have no good way of doing that and I wasn't tracking every version change so I don't know what to revert back to (even if I could).   Call me old-fashion, and I am, but the timing can't just be luck.

The problem doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and I wonder if it is the TV hardware itself,  but I can't ignore the timing being so exact to the software change and the cyclic nature of the problem. The system is basically useless to me as it is and I would prefer to resolve than buy an alternate product.

Other data: RokuTV - 7116X; TCL Model - 43S517;

Thanks for the post.

The issue you are experiencing may be hardware related.

Have you tried contacting TCL support yet to inquire further? I'd suggest starting there to see what options or suggestions they can provide. Each Roku TV manufacturer provides direct support for their products running the Roku OS.

You can reach them here: https://support.tclusa.com/televisions or at 1-877-300-8837.

Thanks,

Did a second factory reset and problem appears to be gone.  I don't know why.
