I recently installed Roku on my Samsung Smart TV. Using the Roku remote to get into Roku and watch multiple streaming apps works fine. However, if I try to goi back to live TV I stop whatever I'm watching then use my TV remote to change the TV input back to HDMI1 I get a message that says there is no input connnected to HDMI1.
If I turn the TV off after switching back to HDMI1 and then turn it back on (say, the next day) it's on HDMI4. (I can change input to HDMI1 and it works OK).
IOW, Roku doesn't smoothly "let go" of my TV Input.
Please help before my wife makes me just throw it out.
Are you returning the Roku to the Home Screen -- that is, pressing the HOME button -- when you're done watching it? Or are you leaving it streaming content or otherwise in an app?

I'm not aware of any "letting go" in HDMI. I don't think Roku even knows that you have switched away from it.
On your Samsung TV, OTA TV is not on HDMI 1. You need to select the internal tuner for OTA TV. Now if you are referring to using a cable box that is on HDMI 1, that's different.
As already mentioned, the Roku does not "capture" or in any way hold your HDMI port. If the TV is reporting there's nothing connected to an HDMI port, and the actually is something connected, that's going to be an issue with the TV . The Roku has nothing to do with it.
