Solving playback issues

After breaking down and buying a new Streaming Stick 4K (my old Express stopped detecting Wifi), I'm having another bizarre issue. On every channel I've tried (so far Hulu, Tubi, Disney+, and I think Netflix), sometimes when I turn it on whatever I'm watching will be shrunk to a small square in the upper left, with the rest of the screen black. What's weird is this *doesn't* happen to the whole channel interface, just the actual show! If I pause it, the menu fills the screen but the show itself is still a tiny square. It's not unwatchable, but really annoying!

It seems to be connected to what power source I'm using-- if it's plugged into the TV it's never a problem, but sometimes I'll get the low-power message and have to plug it into the wall. The video shrinking only happens when I'm using the wall outlet, but not all the time! Maybe it's a coincidence? I don't change any settings between this happening and not happening. Anyone have input? Thanks!

I am having this issue with my new Roku express. Were you able to get a solution???? It's so frustrating.

I got it fixed! Try removing the channels giving you a problem. Then follow this pathway: Home>Settings>Power>Restart. Readd the channels giving you issues. Then you should be back to normal! I was fine last night then wonky today. I think it's Netflix causing the issue because I keep getting an error code with that sometimes when I load it up. Good luck!

I lied - Every "new" day it goes back to small screen like it's a default setting. So it appears that this is only a 24 hour temporary fix ugh!!

I’ve figured out that it happens when both the Roku and the TV have been shut off. My somewhat annoying, but effective, fix is to immediately restart the Roku from the menu after turning it on. From what I can tell it works every time, so it’s become part of the routine, but what a weird glitch.

Hey there - yeah, that seems to be what's happening to me too. That when the TV and the roku are both off it can trigger the smaller screen. It's happening less frequently now which is nice, but still happens from time to time. I guess it is a "simple" solution just super repetitive and annoying. Thanks for reaching out!
