This is nothing but a bunch of rubbish. I’ve used this Roku stick for 16 months in the same USB port and NOW there’s insufficient/low power, out of nowhere. Why don’t you just admit that you want people to have to buy new ones. This thing should last a lot longer that 16 months. Why can’t you just be honest. I just tried to use the wall plug instead and the same thing is happening. Convenient that it’s out of warranty. Looks like I’ll be getting a Fire Stick. Junk.
It doesn't matter if it worked for a while. The Roku isn't getting enough power.
This usually is a problem with the TV. It's no longer sending enough power through the USB port. You may have to reset the TV. Usually you can do this by unplugging it for a minute, then plugging it back in.
Otherwise, you should be using a wall power outlet.
USB standards say only 0.5a power draw. Some implementations allow a little more, it is partly software controlled (did TV software update), but also power components age (especially capacitors) and may not allow the excess draw anymore.
Roku devices have always needed a little over 0.5a, and I think recent software updates are driving the processors harder, increasing average draw, making power components in TV work harder, and aging them.
Unless USB is rated above 0.5a in your specific TV (check specs), always use a 1a USB power supply and cable (roku or generic). Will reduce problems all round.
