2024 ultra audio tinny and weird on lg oled cx but was great with my 2021 ultra version!

Jump to solution

Hi I have been using Roku ultra 2021 model on my LG OLED CX for a few years and the internal TV speaker sound is great. I changed to an ultra 2024 and unless I change the TV internal sound to standard it sounds tinny and weird. is there an automatic "fake"surround output on the new ultra causing a conflict with the lg built in audio? with the older Roku ultra the built in TV speakers sounded good in all of the lg sound modes including AI pro. the new ultra sounds tinny and weird in all modes except standard on my lg and the volume is also noticeably lower at the same number level. The Roku ultra is hooked directly to the TV with a quality HDMI cable. thanks in advance for any help!

Hey @greylion33,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

Thanks for raising this concern directly with us about the Roku Ultra 2024. We're happy to help.

  • Check Audio Settings: Check the audio settings on your Roku Ultra to ensure they are set up correctly. You can do this by going to Settings > Audio. Ensure that the audio output is set to your desired device (TV, soundbar, etc.) and that the audio mode is set to "Auto" or the recommended audio format for your setup.
  • Check Device Connection: If you use an external audio device like a soundbar or receiver, ensure it is correctly connected to your Roku Ultra. Check all cables and ensure they are securely plugged in. Try swapping cables or testing with another audio device to isolate the issue.
  • Restart Roku Ultra: Restarting your Roku Ultra may resolve any audio issues you are experiencing. To do this, go to Settings > System > System Restart.
  • Check Channel-Specific Audio Settings: Some channels may have audio settings that could affect the audio output on your Roku Ultra. Check the audio settings within each channel to ensure they are configured correctly.
  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure your Roku Ultra runs the latest software updates. You can check for updates by going to Settings > System > System update.

Please let us know if the issue is fixed or reply to the thread for further assistance; we will be glad to help you.
