Wireless Outdoor Camera SE with Base station

This is more of a review / suggestion and hopefully a helpful post to those who are purchasing this product and are having issues that they can't find the answers too.

The first thing that I would recommend is that you plug your base station into a power outlet & using the supplied cat cable, unless you want to use your own, into your modem/router's lan port. From what information I can gather, this is necessary to add the base station to your home internet and update itself.

After plugging in your base station grab your phone and download the Roku Smart Home app and log into your existing Roku account. The reason I recommend downloading and logging into the app after plugging in your base station is because it does unfortunately take a few minutes for the base station to connect and I'm going to assume update. As my base station was not fully setup according to the light on it for nearly 10 minutes. I have T-Mobile's 5G Home Internet so maybe that's why, I don't know.

After the base station is ready to go using the supplied usb cable, plug the camera into it. The camera should be physically turned off. Do NOT turn it on. This is probably the most frustrating part. Once plugged in, walk away as they say. Wait about 30 minutes to give the camera time to get a decent charge. After about 30 minutes go ahead and turn it. Add it to the base station using the app and then push the sync button on the bottom.

After this you should be ready ready to go. My suggestion is that after the camera is synced to go ahead and turn it back off for about an hour to speed up the charging. I still have my camera inside my home but of course looking outside the window for now so I still have the charging cable attached so I can keep the camera "on" keeping an eye on the porch, mail box, etc...

Alright, If you have gotten this far congrats as it does take a few minutes to set up. Unfortunately from what I've read, the cameras need to be relatively close to the base station unless I am misinformed or misunderstanding things. As a result of this, Unless we want to go out and purchase a long cat cable to put the base station closer to the cameras we have to disconnect the base station from the modem/router and connect it to wifi.

This is the part that nearly drove me to pull my hair out and bring this back to Walmart!!! The following information was not easy to find which is why I'm posting it here.

The first thing you need to do is to go into your wifi settings and make sure your modem/router supports 2.4Ghz. Mine is dual band and transmits both frequencies at the same time so for me this is not an issue.

The second thing you need to do is to look at your WPA Version. My recommended setting is: WPA2/WPA3. While your phone, at least mine, Roku player, laptop, etc will all connect your network/internet and not have issues; this is not the case for the Roku Base station. You will need to change your WPA setting to WPA/WPA2. This at least for me did change my WPA encryption mode. I can not change it back to what it was unless I change my WPA setting back. Anyway

Once you have, in my case, changed the WPA setting, you need to save your changes which may result in a soft reboot of your modem/router.

Now you can open the Roku Smart Home app, tap on the base station and then tap on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner. Then tap on Device Info.

Look for Wifi Network and more than likely it will say Not set or Not setup. You will need to tap that then find your Network and add your password and save. Hopefully you should be brought back to the Device Info

Next on Change Connection and follow the prompts. In my case it will give you an error stating your internet password is wrong or your not on a 2.4GHz network.  In this situation, should you encounter this error, simply Kill the app without leaving this error screen. After killing the app look at your base station and check the light. It should be solid blue, if not give a couple of minutes at least. Also relaunch/reopen the Roku Smart Home app and go back into your Device Info screen. Hopefully is as it should be.

I hope this helps those having issues and those who are looking to maybe purchase this product.
