Outdoor camera constantly stating the need for format SD card

Jump to solution

Just purchased a Roku outdoor wireless camera last night from Walmart.  I installed a high capacity SD card and installed it in the camera. Every time I attempt to view the camera in the Smart Home app, I receive a pop-up message stating that I need to format the SD card.  I do so, and receive the “format success” message, only to receive the same message requesting formatting the next time I attempt to view the camera in the app.  This is a known good SD card that I recently bought and have used in my drone with zero issues, so I have a hard time believing that the SD card is faulty and continuously needs formatting. Solutions?

Hi @Jwillis,

Thank you for keeping us posted here in the Roku Community!
We will be more than happy to answer your inquiry. All Roku Smart Home cameras support microSD cards up to 256GB, except for the Outdoor Camera SE. This camera, along with its base station, are limited to cards ranging from 8GB to 32GB. When a microSD card is installed in the base station, it is used to back up recordings from the outdoor camera.

If you want to get more information, please check out this support article here on how to install a microSD card in your Roku Smart Home camera.

We hope this helps, and please keep us posted if you need anything else.
Best regards,

John

Can you tell me the recommended SD card specs for the Outdoor Camera SE?   I cannot locate this info. Once I have this, I will purchase and try another SD card.
