Roku setup

i have a 2008 toshiba television that does have an HDMI port. Will any ROKU device work with this set and if so, which item would you think is best?

If it's a really old TV with HDMI 1.0, there may be some issues. As for which is best depends on what you want. The best device is the Ultra, but it may have features that you don't need. The Stick+ might be a good option, as it has many of the same features as the Ultra. The Premiere is a good device. And the Express is a good first streamer. 

Sometimes the remote might make the deciding factor. It depends on what you want. You can compare the features of the different products on the Roku Website and see which features are appealing to you.

There's a chance your TV might not support 1080p. Many of the early HDMI equipped TVs only support 720p and 1080i (notice the different letter on the end). In theory, any Roku should still provide 720p automatically. But some of those early TVs also do not report their correct resolution support via the HDMI handshake protocol, and the Roku tries to send 1080p. In that case, you get a blank screen, or a warning about an unsupported resolution from the TV.

You really won't know for certain without actually trying it. But you can't hurt either the TV or the Roku if they won't work together.
