Hello, I seem to keep inheriting my children's old ROKU devices when they pass along a TV. I have one on each TV that I use but I have two others just sitting here.
Will the devices update or do they become obsolete at some point? I feel funny throwing them away if I can pass them along to someone that may appreciate one.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
If you can't get any more updates to them and the apps start having issues, it most likely is too old. It looks like the range of 8 to 10 years old is when that starts to happen with the devices. If you look up the Roku wiki page or the Roku support page, there is a good chart that shows the models and age and capabilities to give you a good idea.
The current Roku OS version is now 14.1 and usually anything with an OS less than 12 starts to have issues with the newer apps. Doesn't mean they won't work completely, but some apps may no longer function on that particular device with an old OS.
With TVs that use Roku, they seem to develop issues quicker depending on the brand, especially the budget level ones.
Roku devices listed as discontinued or no longer supported on Roku's site are also indicators.

Thank you so much!!
You can also go to Settings/System/About to get the model number. If you post them here, users here can tell just what they are and how old they are, and what, if any, support they have.
