After a couple weeks of struggling I changed my email address domain (the part after the @) to all upper case and finally managed to get the activation email, which kind of proves this is a Roku problem. Case is ignored for domain names, DoMaIn.CoM is treated identically to domain.com or DOMAIN.COM. Now to enter all the appropriate logins for our streaming services. Wonder if I'll ever hear from Roku support, since what I did was a workaround and not a fix for their bug.
I heard from support over the weekend, asking for contact info. No response to that yet.
Instead of typing domain eg @Gmail.com
I hovered over @symbol and selected from list of domains. This worked for me.
