Sony KDL-V40XBR1 television

Hi, I have an older Sony KDL-V40XBR1. I note there is an HDMI port on the back of the television and an old USB probably version 1.0 on the side of the television. I would please like to know if a Roku Streaming device will work on my older Sony KDL-V40XBR1? Also, if a Roku Streaming device will work which one should I purchase? and how would I setup the Roku Streaming device up? I believe the Sony KDL-V40XBR1 is HDR compatible, but not 4K, however, I would prefer a device I can grow into.

Thank you

Re: Sony KDL-V40XBR1 television

I believe HDR only applies to 4k sets, so yours wouldn't have that.  Any current Roku model should work in your TV.  The USB port is irrelevant - if a Roku device (like the sticks) comes with a USB power adapter it's best to use that adapter and not the TV's USB port.

Which device you get is up to you.  You can compare features here:

The models with a + in their name are usually the same as the less expensive version with the same name except for the remote and possibly other accessories.  All but the least expensive current model support 4k TVs, but will work on any HDTV.

Setup for the vast majority of people is simple - it requires creating a Roku account with a valid email address.  The device walks you through the process when you first connect it to your TV.  Some people have the occasional issue, but come back to this "community" if you do and someone will help you.

Remember:  there is never any charge to set up, activate, update, get customer service, or any kind of ongoing/monthly charge apart from whatever premium subscriptions you may add.  There are plenty of scammers out there that have no problem scamming using Roku's name.  I highly recommending adding a PIN to your Roku account once you set it up to prevent the unintentional purchase.
