I changed the Screensaver on my TCL Roku Tv, but the default Screensaver keeps showing up. I changed it to the aquatic saver and it states its the current saver, but the default saver always comes on.
I have the same thing here, on my Roku devices as well as my Roku TV. This seems to be controlled by the various channel apps, which, as you may know, are provided by the channel services themselves to run on the Roku platform. Some channel apps, when going to the screensaver honor your choice of screensaver (mine also it the aquatic fish tank), some just bring up the Roku system default for that Roku, and I've got some that just deliver a black screen.
If you pause a video you'll never see your chosen screensaver. It will be a blank screen or "Logo rain".
Does this happen when you are not inside an app? That is, on the Roku Home Screen?
Or does this happen only when an app is running when screen saver kicks in?

This is the correct answer folks. Thanks!!
This "glitch" of defaulting to the raining Roku screensaver, or a black screen, when pausing a video, never occurred on my older Roku Streaming Stick that I recently replaced with the newer 4K. It always went to the screensaver I chose, no matter what. Why change this? It seems more like a downgrade IMO and I hope it can be corrected in a software update. Other than this I love my Roku as always. Thanks.
@Lore4, was your old stick a 4k device and are you using the same screensaver? I haven't figured out a rhyme or reason why some devices get "Logo rain" and others don't (and I've seen the same device act differently depending on the phase of the moon, I suppose 🙂 ), but I don't think it's a "glitch" and I doubt it's going to be "corrected". If anything, they'll probably change it to something more annoying.
My old one is not a 4k, just a plain Roku Streaming Stick, a few years old, and it also came with a remote that has voice search and headphone jack, PLUS included ear buds! This new 4k streaming stick's remote lacks a headphone jack, so is a downgrade as far as the remote goes. It was the only streaming stick available for my older TV. With the unpredictable screensaver, not sure what the advantage is with this 4k Stick. I waited too long to hook it up, so it's too late to return it now. It works, but the screensaver is annoying. I wanted the aquarium one to display all the time, and it's unpredictable.
@Lore4, I assume the old stick wasn't using the aquarium screensaver since I think it's only available on 4k devices. It probably uses way too many resources to run while in the middle of streaming a video. "Logo rain" is the default "low resources" screensaver. If you know you're going to pause a video for an extended period, it's probably best to just press the Back button (the one to the left of Home) to stop the video since most, if not all, apps offer a way to resume a video.
Thanks. Makes sense. I usually back out of the program/video when not watching it. If I have to unexpectedly step away, I'll pause it. If I'm gone longer than 30 minutes (the max time in the app) whatever screensaver app I'm playing stops and the screen either goes Black or to raining Roku. My older stick didn't do this, screensaver all day long if I wanted. There used to be a "Never" option (as in never disable the screensaver) now it's capped at 30 minutes on the 4K. I also turned the power saver off under "Settings", so the Roku would not go to sleep, which was one of the suggestions given elsewhere, but still does not help.
I always say, "If it ain't broke don't fix it", or whatever was done to this updated 4K stick. Glad I have it though, because Roku is the best I have yet to try so far. I guess I just have to get used to it. Hopefully the next one will be improved.
