Roku device - No menu and no response to controls

I need help that I can't find

Intuitively

Using all instructions on and in the box

On forums

No one ever said I shouldn't turn off the ROKU after it was installed.  No where do I see that.  

I innocently turned ROKU off when I turned my TV off, just as I had when using my previous ROKU.  Now all I am getting all sorts of garbage I can't control.

No menu.

No response to controls.  
Lots of frustration.

Can anyone help me?

No, there's no issue with powering a Roku completely off when not in use. If you're seeing a scrambled screen, that sounds like an HDMI connection issue. What model Roku player do you have? Exactly what are you seeing on the screen?
