Roku Express compatibility with plasma

Hi everyone. My TV is Panasonic, a bit old plasma with HDMI 1.0 I believe type A. What Roku device will be compatible with that TV? I'm asking for Roku Express especially. TV hasn't got USB port, so will need a power adapter to plug it in a wall socket obviously. I'll listen suggestions for other Android TV boxes that would be good for that TV to convert it in a smart one but I'm mostly interested in Roku Express. Thanks to everyone who answer

Re: Roku Express compatibility with plasma

I'm not answering the HDMI 1.0 question, but have noticed some other things in your question that might be helpful.

You talk about needing a power adapter. Roku comes with that. All Roku devices are designed to plug into a wall outlet for power. Some users do connect some devices to the USB port on a TV, but many never do that.

You said "other Android TV" devices. That wording makes me think that you think Roku is an Android TV device. It isn't. If you want Android TV, you need a different line than Roku.

I'm not sure that latest Roku Express models come with a power adapter https://www.roku.com/en-gb/products/roku-express . I heard that Android TV box also would be useful for that TV, so if someone let me know what exactly I need will be great

That must be a UK thing. The US version has the power adapter. https://www.roku.com/products/roku-express

As for Android TV, a lot of people like the interface. I simply read your wording as to indicate you thought Roku was based on Android, and I wanted to ensure you were aware that it's not.

Here in the US, the Google Chromecast with Google TV is a good, inexpensive device on that platform. I don't know what all is sold on that side of the Atlantic.

Get a Roku Ultra. Worth the extra bucks for the nicer remote and better wifi signal alone. Plus it’s just overall a better unit.

The Ultra isn't sold in the UK. They have the Express, Premiere, Stick+, and Streambar.

The Premiere comes with a power adapter, and supports 4K/UHD, and is currently £30, only £5 more than an Express.

Re: Roku Express compatibility with plasma

Yeah, but my Panasonic is about 15 yrs old model. I'm pretty sure HDMI port is 1.0 or 1.1. I've seen in Roku website minimum requirements are 1.4 but on other pages is stated any HDMI would be good. I have to wait answer from Roku support.

I've read Chromecast requires HDMI 2.0

Re: Roku Express compatibility with plasma

I believe you are correct regarding all current Roku devices. And I'd not suggest finding an older device that did support it; likely, all of those are not supported in any way and most apps wouldn't load.

Re: Roku Express compatibility with plasma

I had a Panasonic plasma set for close to ten years (ST30 if I recall) and my past Roku devices all worked fine on it. I believe the 4640 Ultra was the last one I used on it before I replaced the TV for 4K. I wouldn't expect you to have any issues with any Roku player.

If they offer the Premiere in the UK, I recommend that over the Express. Not much more money but an all-around better player.

Re: Roku Express compatibility with plasma

Well I'll wait for Roku support reply. I used Roku Express on other TV before and was pretty good. I just need it to cast from my phone and watching free content like YouTube, BBC, etc
