Roku 3 not responding to remote or mobile app remote

My brand new remote and mobile app remote does not make the Roku 3 respond in any way. My screen is stuck on the Language setup and then goes to screensaver mode. I have unplugged the Roku3 and plugged it back in. The remotes have no effect on this player.

The app won't work until it's connected to a network.  You can try a wired connection, but I'm not sure that will work to get through the setup with the app.

What kind of remote did you get?  If there's a button on the back or inside the battery compartment try pairing it.
