Just bought two new in the box, Roku Express + units. Got first hooked up and running no problem. Second unit is connected to an older Panasonic T(tau) tube tv. This tv is a 1080i HDTV with a single HDMI input. Tv has been connected via this HDMI to a Samsung Smart BluRay player for a couple years with no issues. Wanted to upgrade to the Roku to add flexibility to streaming choices not offered via the Samsung player. Connected Roku via HDMI, power is connected, but only a scramble screen is seen (can actually see the startup menu change in the background but it’s completely scrambled) Assuming some type of compatibility issue between TV’s HDMI input and the Roku’s HDMI output??? Even swapped the HDMI chords to check that AND tried the first player that I mentioned setting up on first TV in other room; same issue occurs on Panasonic with other player that’s working fine in other room. Thoughts?
Time to get a new TV dood.
They stopped making tube TV's in 1957.
Ok, so I guess it’s not a “tube” tv. CRT maybe? It’s less than 15 years old, it’s an HDTV and has HDMI. Same question is still posed.
I'm having this same issue w/a 3910x on an old Panasonic Triple play. I picked up a 3910x second hand, specifically so I can hook up w/the RCA connectors, but it comes out scrambled. HDMI works on another TV. Any updates? Does this work?
If it was used, it might not have oem breakout cable, roku's breakout cable conductors are different from other 3.5 to rca cables. So instead of receiving video from the yellow cable you're actually getting audio. They sell them:

Scroll down to cables its fourth cable listed for $9.99
So I have an early Panasonic 42" Plasma TV with 1-HDMI port. Attached Roku Ultra, but only get a scrambled screen. DISH worked via the HDMI, but the Roku won't. Any recommendations, other than buying a new TV.. Will if I have to, but feeling Nostalgic.....
I bought that OEM breakout cable they recommended & it solved my issue on an older Panasonic tube TV.
Hi everyone. My TV is Panasonic, a bit old plasma with HDMI 1.0 I believe type A. What Roku device will be compatible with that TV? I'm asking for Roku Express especially. TV hasn't got USB port, so will need a power adapter to plug it in a wall socket obviously. I'll listen suggestions for other Android TV boxes that would be good for that TV to convert it in a smart one but I'm mostly interested in Roku Express. Thanks to everyone who answer
All Roku devices are pretty much the same, so if one works they'll all work and if one doesn't then none of them will. The best thing to do is to get one from a place with a good return policy and just try it.
By the way, Roku isn't Android.
