I had a rented Roku, had to turn it in, and purchased my own. Same account/email on my new Roku as the rented one. My daughter had lots of channels saved on the old Roku. Is there a way to carry that to the new one or does she have to re-save her channels again?
Hadn't heard of anyone renting a Roku before (much less turning it in after paying rental fees), but...ok. If using same email/account as previous Roku device, try doing a manual System Update. Settings...System...System Update. This will update all channels to any linked Roku devices. If unsuccessful, then maybe the rented Roku got Factory Reset and lost the Channels linked to the account.
Truthfully, since you now own your old Roku, I think I would just Factory Reset it and use a completely new email address and set up new account and start anew. Don't know the circumstances of your rental agreement, but sounds sketchy to me at first glance. (again, not knowing circumstances).
Unless, of course, you mean you rented a place that had a Roku device there as part of your rental agreement. That I could see. If that is the case, the Channels should be under your Roku Account and "should" transfer to the new device, I would think.
I had a house fire last year and the furniture rental place was supposed to furnish a smart TV (since that's what I had before). They didn't (they just sent a regular TV) - so when I called, they offered to send the Roku. All my furniture had to be turned in yesterday though.
Thank you for the advice..I will definitely have to give it a try
Sometimes a reasonable explanation does exist. In your case, all seems legit, so you should be able to use your old account if you wish and should be able to retrieve your channels when linking the new Roku device to this account and using the manual System Update.
@Denj806, if you had a payment method set up for that returned Roku and you didn't factory reset it before you returned it log into your Roku account and unlink that device from your account. Otherwise whomever gets it next can charge things to your payment method if they get it and it's still linked to your account.
Thank you!
