Moving from Canada to Scotland

Jump to solution

We're moving next month to Scotland.   if I took our Roku with us it would work in the UK?  I'm not worried about the plug difference as it's easy to get those. I'm just not sure if it would register as my account is set up here in Canada. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi @PJ_Sparkle,

Thanks for the inquiry, and welcome to the Roku Community!

Please be advised that you can use a Roku device anywhere, but if you're not in a supported region many features and apps won't be available. Netflix works pretty much anywhere, but many of the other services don't allow their apps on Roku devices in regions not officially supported by Roku.

Hope you'll find this information useful. Please keep us posted if there's anything else we can do to assist you.

Best,

Yes, it will work in Scotland. The UK is a supported location. However, your account is based in Canada, and when your device is IP identified within the UK, you might not be able to access all of the content you can while it's in Canada. Also, if you wanted to install a UK only app (BBC is one example) your Canadian account would not allow you to install it.

For best results, you should create a new Roku user account once you have relocated in the UK, and perform a hard reset of your Roku to link it to the new user account. Then you will have access to all content available for UK users. If you have any subscriptions directly through Roku, make sure you cancel them all before switching to your new account.
