Model 3900x that gets power from HDMI ports

Jump to solution

I have what I’m sure is one of the first ROKU devices sold. It is model number 3900x and I can’t even find a photo of it anywhere online. I have lost the original remote and just bought one on eBay that is supposed to work with all ROKU devices. The device does not power on or at least there are no lights. It just plugs into the HDMI ports for power. Is it just too old to use anymore or can someone suggest what the issue is? Thank you very much!

@WhiteBear78 Do you mean it gets power from a USB port on the TV?  No Roku device plugs into an HDMI port for power that I am aware of.  I think the 3900 is a Roku Express.  Check the device to see if it has a separate place for a power cord.

Could it be the 3400 which used a single MHL connector?  (MHL looks like HDMI but MHL also supplies power – which HDMI does not.)

Is it purple?

Banned but back. Because why not?

Of course you are dealing with an old man who has no memory! Obviously the device has a power port! And even after about 8 years with no use and an extensive move, I actually found the power cord! I think I’m up and running again. Thank you so much for helping me with this!! GREAT community!!
