During the set-up of my device, I got through the software scan successfully and got the bouncing ROKU logo then the screen went blank. I did not receive the request for my email address nor did I get any activation code. I have tried using the "home button" on the ROKU remote, have powered it down and back up again and done a factory reset. Still have a blank screen. I have already opened a Roku account on-line prior to installation. How can I complete the set-up and start using the device?
I'd try a hard reset and start over again. Somewhere on the body of the player is a small hole, and there's a button recessed in that hole. Use a paperclip or something similar and hold the button for a minimum of 30 seconds, not one second less. Ignore anything happening on the screen until the 30 seconds passes. Then let it reboot and see if it returns to the initial setup screen.
If it doesn't, then the player is probably defective. Unfortunately it happens even with new devices. I had a brand new Roku TV that got stuck a setup loop. I returned it for a new one and that has now been in use for about 5 years.
I have done a hard reset twice now ~ once for the recommended 10 seconds and just now for the full 30 seconds you suggested. The light on the front flashes to indicate it has reset but the screen remains blank. It does not go back to the initial set-up process. Since the reset, it now appears that it has disconnected from my internet service as well.
Could it have anything to do with which HDMI port it is connected to? My TV has 2 HDMI ports to choose from.
Highly unlikely it would be the TV port, but it's always worth trying a different one.
The 10 second hard reset is for Roku TVs. For Roku players, it requires the full 30 seconds.
If you don't get anything in the other port, you could try a completely different TV if possible. But the dancing Roku logo should be visible at the least during the boot. If you don't even see that, then there's been a hardware failure and you should exchange it wherever you purchased it.
The dancing ROKU is the only thing I get. Giving up and returning it for a new one that hopefully will work.
Thanks so much for your assistance!
I have tried every single suggestions found on this website. Nothing works at recovering the device once this issue starts to occur. I’m giving in and buying a new device. Possibly not even a roku which is sad because I have been such a supporter of them for years. Even my roku tv has been giving me issues.
Before I boxed it up to return I decided to give it one more try. I changed the HDMI port and it worked. I was able to complete the set-up and activation. Everything now working fine.
