Connecting all devices to older TV

I have an older P50 VIZIO TV with only 2 HDMI ports and no antenna port. I have tried to connect my Roku Streaming Stick+, my LG DVD player, plus an antenna & converter box (for local channels). If I have the Roku connected I can't access the converter box (no signal). If I want to use the DVD player I have to switch out the red, white, and yellow plug-in cables and disconnect the Roku. Is there a way to have everything connected at the same time? Pulling out the TV and unplugging and replugging stuff is a hassle!

Re: Connecting all devices to older TV

Deb, looking at a Vizio P50 manual, it looks like you should be able to have everything plugged in at the same time.

Where have you tried plugging them in? I am assuming you have the Roku in HDMI1 and the DVD in HDMI2 (or vice versa) and the converter in AV1 or AV2. You should be able to cycle through the Input (from the remote control) to select the device you want.

Re: Connecting all devices to older TV

If you don't have enough HDMI ports, I would get an HDMI switch (cheap option) or Audio/Video Receiver (HDMI switch plus good sound, but obviously way more money.)

I wouldn't subject anyone to composite video these days!

Re: Connecting all devices to older TV

Yep, if your TV is otherwise still working well and you don't want to replace it, use something with HDMI switching. I prefer using an AVR, so I can have the full 5.1 plus Atmos audio, but then I'm not afraid of running wires around. There are HDMI switches you can buy that include a remote so you can switch inputs without getting out of the chair. And depending on the HDMI devices connected, sometimes CEC works fine for switching the input as well. Of course, the HDMI switch itself would also have to support CEC, and I'm not certain that's a common feature.

Re: Connecting all devices to older TV

@PATOLIVE I'm not aware of the XBox having an HDMI input, so there's no way to connect another device through it to the TV.

Re: Connecting all devices to older TV

@PATOLIVE

Thanks for the post.

As @atc98092 mentioned, Roku devices are not connected to other devices. Roku devices in general are connected directly to the TV themselves.

Thanks,
Danny
