Can Roku shows be recorded to a DVR or DVD Recorder?

The Roku player does not download or record movies, TV shows, other videos, or songs. Instead, Roku streams content from the web, generally starting playback in 30 seconds or less.

Keep in mind that what @RokuMary-F said is true. However, many people use services such as Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, Frndly, Philo, and more, that carry live programming. Those services are much like a streaming cable package. 

Those services often (almost always) include DVR capability. So, if you were asking if you can record an episode of Reality Island from YouTube TV, then you can, but not really anything to do with Roku, but within that service. You can access it via Roku, but you can also access it via a Web browser.

So, if you meant record just anything you stream, @RokuMary-F answered that. If you meant it like I was suggesting, you now know that answer too.

And to amplify what Mary said. There's no recorder that you can connect to the HDMI output of the Roku. There is copy protection on the HDMI signal that prohibits copying the data. This is done for security purposes. If you had an older Roku (or some other streamer) that has the old analog outputs, you could connect it to some sort of recorder. But it won't be in high definition, as analog doesn't support HD. 

There's a few recording devices capable of recording an HDMI signal, but no legal device will record a stream with the copy protection embedded. The protection is called HDCP, and it's really not defeat-able, not legally.
