The devices are expected to be used in an indoor, controlled environment. You may get years of service in an outdoor location, or you may not. Keep in mind that the TV is probably not designed for an outdoor location either. So, if you decide to risk that situation, the TV would be a larger loss to environmental factors than would a cheap Roku device.
