Why did private listening suddenly stop working on my Roku device?

Recently I moved the Rolu in my house to a separate room but the TV is too far away to hear it properly, so I tried to use private listening only to discover it stopped working. It doesn't emit audio from the TV or my phone, all of my volume is maxed out. Can anyone help?

What model Roku and model number?  Roku menu path Settings > System > About will show you.

Some older models don't support remote listening.  See this chart on Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roku#Feature_comparison.  Models supporting remote listening will show "stream to smartphone" under the Audio/analog column.
