When I tap on the app, it blinks on and closes within what seems like a nanosecond.
My iPhone is up to date. The app is up to date, but to no avail.
Help. The device works well with my television. However, I would like to stream via my iPhone when I am not at home and have some spare time.

Which model iPhone? What version iOS are you running? And what is the app version? You said "up to date" but that doesn't tell what version you are using. The latest version for one device might not be the same for a different device, so exact data, as always, is more helpful.
In the meantime, you might want to completely remove the app from your phone, then restart the phone, then re-add the app to your phone.

Yes. Just delete the app from your phone. Then go to the App Store and download the app again. Should work.
