It would be helpful to state both your Roku model name/# and your phone brand/model.
Roku products support two protocols for screen mirroring - Miracast (aka "screen mirroring") and AirPlay (aka "AirPlay").
Windows/Android devices support Miracast (depending on the device software/firmware version etc), and Apple devices support AirPlay.
Not sure what "Screen mirroring app" you downloaded to where (Roku or phone - models unknown), but the screen mirroring functionality (Miracast receiver app) in Roku devices comes built-in and enabled by default - all you need to do is use the Miracast-compatible screen sharing/mirroring functionality of your sending device (PC/phone/tablet).
If you are using an Apple product, again the AirPlay functionality (receiver app) is built-in for supported models (either its there or not) - just use AirPlay to mirror (Control Center) or cast (within apps).
