Yes, I believe that's normal. It's because some users want to use the private listening function, which requires the phone to stay active. But you should be able to use the power button to put it back to "sleep", which is really just turning the display off to conserve the battery.

Re: Roku app remote further response

It should, of course, be governed by a Preferences setting, and it is not. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has found his phone drained and hot after forgetting to exit the app.
Which by the way I wouldn’t need if there were a “find remote” capability in Roku!

The Ultra has a find remote function, but I believe it's the only one that does.

I’m looking for an alternative app for my Roku TV. WHO LIKES WATCHING TV WITH THEIR PHONE LIT UP? It seems more likely for Roku to accommodate their users instead of the other way around.

There might be an alternative app (you didn't say if you have an Android or iPhone), but it's still going to need to be active on your phone to use it. You could also get an inexpensive universal IR remote that lists Roku TVs as a supported device.

That said, the phone only needs to be "lit" while you're actually using it to control the TV. Once you've selected the channel to watch and have your volume set, your phone can go back to sleep until you need a control function again.

@AppDesigner  The Official Roku Remote Control app for iOS or Android can be used even if your phone is locked. I do this all the time. The app is still working cause you did not close it out. You just lock your phone screen. It’s that easy.
