Private Listening and iPhone XR

Jump to solution

Equipment:

iPhone XR running iOS 15.7

Roku streaming stick+
Roku premier

Up until yesterday, I was able to use private listening on my iPhone XR with both of the above Roku devices without incident. It worked fine.

Interestingly, it still works fine on an old iPhone 5s running iOS 12.5.5 that I keep as a spare.

I have tried all the Roku recommended fixes, but the issue is unresolved.

I’ve also noticed that when I turn on private listening on the XR, the the headphone icon appears to indicate it is working, and the icon appears in the upper right hand corner of the TV, but after a minute or so, the icon on the TV changes back to the speaker, and sound once again is playing through the TV’s sound system.

Looking for a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

Call off the cavalry!

I found the solution…

I was at a medical facility yesterday, and was using their guest network. Since I was away from the safety of my own network, I turned on my phone’s ExpressVPN app. I never turned it off after I returned home.

I just now thought of that, and turned it off and tried private listening again. It now works as it should!  Sorry if I wasted anyone’s time on this, but I think this is a valuable tip that may help someone else in the future.

Hi @Rockotman,

Sorry to hear of the troubles with your iPhone and private listening. Here to help. Can you let me know the software version and build on your Roku Streaming Stick+? You can find this on your Roku device under Home > Settings > System > About.

A few quick questions. Are you using wired headphones or Bluetooth headphones for private listening? Have you tried restarting your Roku player? To be sure, your Roku player and your iPhone must be on the same wireless network. Have you made any changes to your wireless network, for example, are you segmenting any IP traffic or using filtering software on your router?

Thanks!

Happy Streaming!

In fact, I haven't seen such a question yet. The main feature of the iPhone XR is, of course, the design. Suppose the iPhone XS did not differ in appearance from the iPhone X. In that case, the iPhone XR demonstrates a different approach to style and ergonomics. First, aluminum, as the material of the side edges, returns here. In contrast, the X, XS, and XS Max use steel instead of aluminum. Secondly, there is an emphasis on color; in addition to black and white versions, the novelty is presented in "coral," "yellow," "blue," and Product Red. This model was once written about in the news https://zumroad.com/tech. Good luck finding a solution to your question.
