Roku mobile app

We just bought the stick and downloaded the app. The remote on the app works fine with the exception of the keyboard. I am using a Samsung android and the keyboard comes up but won't type anything. My partner is using an iPhone and he has no problems with the keyboard on Roku app, types with no issues on any app. we are curious if anyone else had this issue as it is very annoying to type on letter at a time with the remote.

What is the model number of your Roku Stick?  Find it on either the bottom of the unit itself, or the bottom of the box.  I have the Express+ from 2017/2018, with analog outputs, and it’s model no. 3910X.

Just verified on my Android MotoZ with the official Roku Remote App and keyboard function working as intended. (v.8.4.0.1099531 on Android 7.1.1)

On my Android app, there will be a little green dot next to the keyboard icon whenever it is available for use. (ie. a Roku screen that it can be used on).

I am assuming both you are you partner are on the same screens when comparing functioning, so just mentioning as a troubleshooting consideration.

Can maybe try clearing the app's cache and data under the Android Settings and see if that helps.  Sometimes restarting the phone is also required. 

[Edited]... How about the Voice control (little microphone icon).  Doesn't help to enter text in fields, but does allow you to search for content and move through the Roku Channel Guides.  Is that feature working?

FYI, “CA” indicates (Canada).  There is also RW (Retail, Walmart).  “R” indicates (Retail).  Nowadays, the aforementioned codes, excluding the Canada code, additionally indicate the packaging for the Roku and its accessories, whereas the “X” only indicates the Roku device unit itself.  Ten years ago, “R” indicated that the Roku device was sold at local retail stores, whereas “X” indicated both the device unit itself and that the device was sold at online stores.

I have this same issue. I can enter things on the keyboard of the roku app but it won't paste or show it on the roku device. Can not enter usernames or passwords with it
