If you could be so kind as to allow me to point out just a couple things here...
First, the original post was made February 4, 2021. Something was finally turned in on January 21, 2022.
Second, the Expert Picture Settings, the issue in question, developed apparently only after an upgrade that involved relocating the features menu location.
Roku is quite literally sitting on the verge of their biggest endeavor to date... The expansion into a streaming service offering a massive streaming catalog.
People want to keep buying Roku TVs. For the most part, they are a very good product.
I have two questions...
1) Since it took a year for the problem to be passed along to your engineers, how long do you think it will be before we see a resolution?
2) How long do you think it will take for people to get sick of simple features missing from your product before the word gets out everywhere?
I'm glad you took my information, but the speed at which this has happened is unacceptable.
A year. A couple weeks shy of a full year....and no one else received a response until I arrived.
I believe we need to get this answered quickly. Before... Well... Before the internet finds out about the way this is handled. Not just this problem, but there's a whole forum of things being handled in a similar fashion.
Not to mention the fact that, even on the small chance they do something with your info, there's a slew of other combinations they just completely ignored.
I had to email a YouTuber to get the ball rolling. It took 72 hours and then moderators were back in the thread. Its a big digital channel that works on trends if you know what i mean.
As stated above, I click the menu button of my roku TV in the app and then Expert Picture Settings and it throws the error and immediately backs out to the device screen. I don't know what the guy above is talking about with light and dark themes having different behavior. I tried both with the same result.
Try re-reading my entire post, eventually you'll catch up.
It's UI dependent in multiple ways.
Nonstandard horizontal resolution above 1080 regardless of the color theme crashes.
Standard horizontal resolution that's some multiple of 1080 with the dark theme crashes.
Standard horizontal resolution that's some multiple of 1080 with the light theme does not crash.
If you aren't completely closing the app (or better yet, restarting the device) between tests, you aren't really testing anything because the app is still in memory.
If your device has a nonstandard resolution, you're SOL.
No I read it correctly. I just didn't feel like typing it all out. I tried setting the resolution to 720p and 1080p in dark and light mode, with the app closed between each change. No luck. I also tried lots of developer options with the same tactic. Maybe my phone is just too long for the Roku app to work, but that's their issue to fix.
"Standard horizontal resolution that's some multiple of 1080 with the light theme does not crash."
This is incorrect. My TCL 20 Pro 5G in light mode (2400x1080) crashes. You just got lucky.
And for "fun" I tried rebooting in 1080 and light mode. Nothing
