Roku 4 Model: 4400X Replacement

Jump to solution

Hello, the roku 4 model 4400x is not longer be receiving updates. We use this one specifically for the optical output, I didn't see any of the new Rokus to have this output. Does anyone know of a replacement that would be comparable to this? It doesn't have to be Roku, i didn't come across anything in my research so just reaching out.

Hi Community users,

Thanks for reaching out to the Roku Community!

We can certainly understand your concern that you receive an email notification informing you that the Roku 4 (4400X) you are using can no longer support the most recent features.

This means this device will no longer get new features or streaming channels, updates to existing channels, or other software-related updates. You can keep using your Roku player to stream the channels you currently have. However, you may lose access to some channels over time as those channel partners make updates.

If you haven't already upgraded your device, you should have received an email with offers to purchase a new player at a discounted price. You can also access this offer by signing into your Roku account and visiting the following website https://my.roku.com/offers.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

Best regards,
Mary

I know of no modern Roku with such a thing, but there are HDMI audio extractors that you can add.  Here are the first two that came up in an Amazon search:

Did you buy it used? Wikipedia says the Roku 4 came out in 2015.

As noted, the Roku 4 has been out for 8 years. That is pretty good support time for most electronics these days. I found the receipt for mine (in the box), and I bought it May 1, 2016 for $140. If you only bought yours 3 years ago, it was either used, or new-old-stock that had been sitting around for 5 years.

The Roku 4 has an oddball CPU compared to newer models. AppleTV+ was never available on it. That said, it will still be usable for a long time. You see people with Roku 2's and other ancient models still using them.
